Prop 65 for California residents

In order to comply with Proposition 65 (officially “the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986”), JOYÀ hereby provides California consumers with the following Prop 65 warning relating to its products:

What is Prop 65?

Prop 65 is a law that applies only in California. According to California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), Prop 65 “protects the state's drinking water sources from being contaminated with chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm”.

The list of chemicals subject to Prop 65 includes more than 800 hundred chemicals, including heavy metals (such as lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury). A complete and updated list of chemicals can be found on the OEHHA website.

Under Prop 65, businesses like ours are required to provide “clear and reasonable” warning to Californians before exposing anyone to the chemicals included in the law. That’s why you’ll see warnings on companies’ websites and labels on their products, and in California, you might also see signs in public or retail stores.

This law does not apply nationally, and the US Food and Drug Administration doesn’t require any warning on products that are subject to Prop 65 in California.

JOYÀ and Prop 65

Some of the botanicals used in JOYÀ’s products naturally contain certain levels of heavy metals from the soil in which they are grown. (For example, volcanic soil in many South American countries, where much of the world’s cacao is grown, contains cadmium.)

JOYÀ’s products are made from 100% natural botanical ingredients including herbs, fungi and plant spices — JOYÀ never adds any heavy metals or other chemicals to any products. Further, all JOYÀ products are third-party lab tested for toxins and contaminants before being sold to consumers.

According to the OEHHA, “A Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean a product is in violation of any product-safety standards or requirements.”

Consumers should always weigh their own risks and make their own assessment when consuming any product.
